USE CAUTION WHEN FITTING YOUR
ANIMALS
Be sure to use only grooming products that are approved for
use on meat and dairy animals when fitting your animals for show.
Unapproved products may contain ingredients that result in unacceptable
residues in meat or milk. If you are not certain that a product is residue
safe and approved for use on meat or dairy animals, DO NOT USE IT.
** IMPORTANT **
If upon slaughter, treatment with drugs, biologics, or any chemical from
fitting products, is the cause of condemnation of a carcass, the loss of
the carcass and any other damages will be borne by the Exhibitor |

Eligibility: 4-H Club
members must have passed their ninth birthday but not have passed their
nineteenth birthday by January 1, 2005. Exhibitors must be members of a
regularly organized 4-H Club, carrying a project in the field they wish to
make entry and be under the supervision of the Pennsylvania State
University Agricultural and Home Economic Extension Service by July 1
preceding the fair. Exhibits must have been selected through an
elimination.
Students enrolled in an accepted vocational
school curriculum must be conducting a project in the class in which they
wish to make an entry. Students enrolled in general home economics in a
comprehensive high school are considered as qualifying. All entries shall
be approved prior to the fair by a member of the Pennsylvania Department
of Education, Agriculture or Home Economics staff or their designated
representative.

4-H and Vocational Dairy
Cattle Fitting and Showmanship |
|
1. 4-H or F.F.A. members may show an animal in the fitting and showing contest provided it has been carried as a project and is owned by the exhibitor.
2. The exhibitor must show the same animal in both contests.
NOTE - In large shows, the best 4-H and F.F.A. fitters and showmen may be selected during the showing of the type classes and then only these become eligible to compete in the fitting and showmanship contests. In smaller shows, all 4-H and F.F.A. members showing an animal can compete in the fitting and showmanship contests. |

GOOD HOUSEKEEPING AWARDS |
Dairy cattle exhibitors who maintain the most attractive and sanitary
exhibits will be eligible for special daily premiums.Premiums will be awarded by clubs and chapters.There will be no double premiums given for “Good Housekeeping Awards”.
All 4-H and F.F.A. dairy cattle exhibits will be scored on the following basis: Points

August 19 and must show class. |

When on exhibition
in the ring, each animal must be under halter and in charge of the owner. |

Exhibits in these
classes can also be entered in the open class. |

All rules as to the
time of entry and removal and fair regulations are the same as in the open
class competition. |

All 4-H and FFA
exhibitors must furnish proof that all entries are carried as projects. |
| 7. |
Exhibitors are
limited to one steer. Limit two entries per class in breeding cattle
classes. |
| 8. |
Steers sold at
Thursday night's sale must be properly cared for by their owner through
Saturday night. This includes watering, feeding, stall cleaning, and the
cleanliness of the animal. A proper rope halter must be left on the animal
Saturday night. Failure to comply to these rules could result in
forfeiting of prizes. |

Market steer classes will be divided into evenly numbered classes at the discretion of the Beef Chairman and committee. Minimum of 4 steers per class - 9 classes maximum. |

4-H and F.F.A. members may show a steer or heifer in the Showing contest provided the animal has been carried as a project and is owned by the exhibitor.
The “Erie County Livestock Program Code of Ethics Regarding Quality Assurance and Animal Care” will apply throughout the fitting and showmanship classes. If it is determined by the 4-H Livestock Selection Committee that an exhibitor has violated provisions of this code regarding fitting or other practices, the exhibitor will not be permitted to sell through the 4-H Livestock Sale at the Waterford Fair. |

Market Lamb classes will be divided into nearly equal classes or
sub-classes by the Department Chairs and their representatives at their
discretion. There will be a maximum of 9 classes/sub-classes with a
minimum of 4 animals per class/sub-class. |

4-H and F.F.A. SHEEP
FITTING & SHOWMANSHIP |
|
4-H and FFA members may show either a market lamb or a breeding ewe lamb in the fitting and showmanship classes. The animal must be a project animal, and it must be owned by the exhibitor. The “Erie County Livestock Program Code of Ethics Regarding Quality Assurance and Animal Care” will apply throughout the fitting and showmanship classes. If it is determined by the 4-H Livestock Selection Committee that an exhibitor has violated revisions of this code regarding fitting or other practices, the exhibitor will not be permitted to sell through the 4-H Livestock Sale at the Waterford Fair. |
